The Gherkin is finished at last!
It took far too long, the top stitching in particular was very laborious but now it is done i am quite happy with it.
Here is a quick picture. I intend to get it properly photographed and see if I can get a mention in the AJ again. Hope you like it.

Progress on the Gherkin

Progress on the gherkin is slow as usual. The form and the spiral have been a challenge but I think I have got it about right.

Making a start on the Gherkin

I have now made a start on the Gherkin building. Firstly I have had an mdf structure made.

After a few trial samples i decided to knit the spiral bands first and apply the ribs latter, time will tell if it was the right approach.

The Arts Tower is Finished!

Here is the finished Arts Tower.
This is the newly refurbished version of the building, which is more uniform. The original had more of a 'patchwork' effect formed by the blinds. Anyway I will take this to Sheffield next week to photograph it with the real thing.

On to the 20th century.

For my first 20th century building I am knitting the 'Arts Tower'.
The Arts Tower is in Sheffield and is home to the School of Architecture.
This, Mies van der Rohe inspired, building was designed by GMW and opened in 1966. It is now listed and has recently been refurbished. It's looking fantastic!

I have decided to use 4-ply wool and to knit in the round, on 5 needles, a bit like a sock.
It's working well but working with 4 colours simultaneously is resulting in very slow progress.
